An abandoned day old baby boy has been rescued from a drainage channel on Holy Timothy Street Aboru, Agbado Oke–Odo, LCDA, Lagos state, Southwest, Nigeria.

The baby was found in the gutter on Friday 19 September, 2014 at about 5:00 p.m. by a petty trader, Mrs Ronke Balogun a.k.a Iya Owo whose shop is almost directly opposite the drainage.

According to Iya Owo, “a male passer-by who heard the baby crying called my attention to the spot where I found the baby wrapped in a window blind.”

She disclosed further that she immediately picked up the baby and took him to the nearby church, Holy Timothy K&S Church, Aboru situated at about twenty metres from the spot and handed him over to a female church member, Prophetess Shola Adesanya who cleaned the baby boy.

Speaking with PM NEWS, Prophetess Adesanya explained that the baby was brought into the church at about 5:00 p.m. but from her rough assumption the baby was delivered at about mid day.

The general overseer of the church, Prophet Johnson Elijah who organised an immediate procurement of all necessary baby needs confirmed the incident but declined to speak further on the issue.

Meanwhile, the abandoned baby was taken to the juvenile section of Oke–Odo Police Division on Saturday.

The head of the section, Inspector Toyin Akorede disclosed that the baby has been transferred to Juvenile Welfare Centre (JWC) headquarters at Alakara, Mushin, Lagos.

However, some residents and sympathizers who craved anonymity told PM NEWS that they know the mother of the baby but pledged to reveal her identity to the law enforcement agents.
