Osun Election: Speaker calls for fair hearing

The Speaker of Osun House of Assembly, Najeem Salaam, has urged members of the Governorship Election Tribunal in the state to be fair and thorough in disposing petitions before them.

Salaam, in an interview with NAN in Osogbo on Thursday, he said members of the tribunal must be ready to protect their integrity in handling of the petitions.

A three-man panel, chaired by Justice Sulaiman Ambrusa, is hearing election petition filed by PDP governorship candidate in the 9 August poll, Iyiola Omisore.

Omisore is challenging the victory of Governor Rauf Aregbesola at the tribunal. The Speaker urged members of the tribunal to be factual and address the issues as they appeared.

“I want to urge members of the tribunal to be honest and upright in handling the election petition before them. They must be ready to protect their integrity and the judiciary they are representing.

“The tribunal must be factual and address the issue as they appear and I believe if they can do this, victory is sure for our party.”

“I am sure that our election victory cannot be upturned at the tribunal. What will be the offence or issue that will result to upturning of our victory?.

“People came out to vote for Aregbesola and I believe that the tribunal panel will not allow itself to be influenced by anybody.”

Besides, Salaam appealed to the people of the state to continue to give their maximum support for Aregbesola.

The speaker assured the people that Aregbesola would not disappoint them during his second term in office. “Gov. Aregbesola has many vision for the state and even the four years cannot be enough to achieve all. The people of the state should be rest assured that the governor will perform to expectation.”
