The remains of Mr Yemi Afolayan, who was Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara, was on Tuesday buried in his home town in Inishan, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara.

NAN reports that the body of the 68-year old politician, who died on Friday during a brief illness, was lowered into the grave at 11:15 a.m.

Speaking at the funeral service, Rev. Michael Akadiri of the 3rd ECWA Church, Oko, urged the people to strive to be righteous at all times.

Akadiri described death as inevitable, noting that the only consolation for the living was to always do good to prepare the ground for everlasting life in the hereafter.

“Everything that has a beginning in life must surely have an end,” he said.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara, in a tribute, said the death of Afolayan had left a big vacuum in the political landscape of the state.

According to the governor, Afolayan discharged every responsibility given to him with a high sense of dedication and to the best of his ability.

Ahmed, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Elder Peter Kisir, prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.

Alhaji Luqman Owolewa, the Chairman of the council, also described the late Afolayan as a grassroots mobiliser and an astute politician of outstanding repute.

He said that the deceased devoted his life to the service of his creator and humanity.

Mrs Yinka Afolayan, the wife of the deceased, described her late husband as a born leader and a trustworthy husband who always had the love of the family at heart.

NAN reports that the late politician is also survived by his aged mother and children.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Deputy Speaker, Kwara House of Assembly, Alhaji Isa Gana, among other party leaders, attended the service.
