The Abuja rain on Tuesday failed to dampen the spirit of the Goodluck Support Groups (GSGs) that gathered to pressurise the president to run for elections in 2015.

NAN reports that more than 7,000 groups under the GSG umbrella, assembled representatives from across the country.

Mrs Nonyelum Ugochukwu, Women’s Leader of the Jonathan Loyal Women, said: “The rain cannot stop us. We came in from the south-east and you can see we are drenched but we must say our minds; Goodluck must return in 2015.”

Mr Strong Amieyofori, Secretary of ‘Friends of Dr Goodluck Jonathan’ said: “If we want to tell ourselves the truth, we all know that a nation like Nigeria is complex to govern.

“Yet this man keeps forging ahead in spite of various distractions. Light in my area, even though not uncut, has improved greatly.

“We are talking about construction of the East-West road today; let me assure you that the terrain is very bad but serious work is ongoing. That is delivery. That is democracy,” Amieyofori said.

Mr Yalli dan-Har’do, a member of the 19 Northern States Youth Forum, another group, lauded the achievements of the president in education.

“The first time I saw the advertisement on television that an almajiri boy caught his father’s manager in the act of swindling his father, I was baffled. It was as if that advert was taken in my village.

“The same thing happened in my place (Numan, Adamawa) and it was a little boy who unveiled the truth. We thank him for the free education our children enjoy,” Har’do said.

Many supporters attended the event at Eagle Square which was filled to capacity. Side attratctions at the event included drummers and dancers who defied the downpour to entertain the guests.
