The new Kwara State Police Commissioner, Salihu Garba, has designated political thuggery as an act of terrorism.

Garba, who stated this in Ilorin on Monday during his maiden press briefing, warned against defacing or outright destruction of political billboards, saying that the command has zero tolerance for political thuggery in whatever guise.

“Destroying billboards will not stop the person who will win the election from winning, but that act constitutes a breach of public peace.

“Those that erected the bill boards and posters have spent some money in doing that, so if anyone destroys them, that may lead to chaos,” he stated.

On the security situation in the country, Garba advised the people of the state to be very vigilant and provide the police with necessary information at all times, pledging to do all within his power to ensure that the state remains peaceful.

Garba, who praised journalists for their support and cooperation with the Command, urged them and other people in the state to keep on keeping the police abreast of information needed to ensure security of lives and property in the state.

He promised to operate an open door policy to allow anyone with useful information concerning the security of the state to volunteer it, assuring them that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
