Kano spends N11m on training of 2,200 birth attendants

Governor Rabi`u Kwankwaso of Kano state on Thursday said the state government spent over N11 million to train 2,200 traditional birth attendants on safe delivery to curb mother-to-child transmission of diseases.

Kwankwaso made this known at the graduation of the second batch of 2,200 women in Kano.

He said that the training would enrich the skills of the traditional birth attendants on safe delivery of babies.

The governor said that the state government spent over N11 million on the training and empowerment of the women with each of them receiving a package of N5,000.

Kwankwaso also donated drugs and other consumables to persons with sickle cell in the state.

Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran, thanked the governor for the gesture, and urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the knowledge.

One of the trainees, Malama Amina Sani, thanked the governor and promised to share the knowledge with others.
