FG trains 140 master bakers on cassava bread in North-Central

The Federal Government has held two-day training for 140 master bakers from North-Central zone on the Inclusion of 20 per cent Cassava Flour in Bread Production.

Mrs Olajumoke Adewolu, Assistant Chief Agriculture Officer, Root and Tuber Division, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said in Lafia on Thursday that the essence was to improve the quality of bread.

She said the inclusion of high cassava flour would reduce the cost of producing bread and put an end to the importation of wheat.

She urged the participants to accord the training the desired attention to enable them to utilise the knowledge for their trade.

Alhaji Umaru Mohammed, Nasarawa State Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, said Nigeria was the largest producer of cassava in the world.

He urged the bakers to fully maximise the abundant resources and the new initiative to improve their products.

Some of the participants toid NAN that the initiative was “a milestone toward self-actualisation”.

According to Mr Ishaya Kuje, North-Central Coordinator of Master Bakers, the innovation was economical and urged the federal government to extend the gesture to other states.

Mathew Olujede from Kogi, expressed satisfaction with the federal government’s drive and pledged to complement the effort.

NAN reports that the programme drew 20 participants each from all the states in the North-Central zone and the FCT.
