The Jigawa government has released N14 million for the conduct of sensitisation workshops on Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) for teachers in the state, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Haruna Wakili, said.

Wakili made this known on Wednesday in Dutse at a one-day workshop on measures to prevent the disease.

The commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Malam Abdullahi Hudu, said the workshop was to sensitise teachers on measures toward preventing the spread of the disease and safeguard students.

He said the ministry would raise a monitoring team, including officials from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and the state environmental protection agency, to go round schools on daily basis.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Tafida Abubakar, said 5,000 participants drawn from public and private schools in the state were taking part in the workshop.

According to him, the training goes beyond measures to check the spread of the virus, as it will also sensitise them about the importance of hand washing and good hygiene.

Abubakar said the habit of regular hand washing would greatly improve personal hygiene.
