A new trend is emerging with the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in some West African countries as hackers now use the epidemic to launch phishing attacks on unsuspecting victims.

With the disease spreading to more countries and cities in the region, leading cyber security firm, Cyberoam has warned that hackers are using news and informations about the disease to hack into people’s computers.

The firm said its finding revealed that hundreds of people may have fallen victim to the new hacking scheme.

It said that in lieu of the Ebola epidemic and as with most phishing emails, the message body warns the user of a trending problem and unsuspecting users opens the email, click on the links or even share them.

Kalpesh Devmurari, representative of Cyberoam reported that the scary aspect of these emails seem like they come from a legitimate source like friends, colleagues, thus increasing the chances of a victim opening them.
