The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Nasarawa state said it had relocated no fewer than 258 corps members posted to crisis areas in the state back to Lafia, the state capital.

NYSC coordinator in the state, Mrs Agatha Olabanji, made this known in an interview with NAN on Monday in Lafia.

Olabanji said that the corps members were being accommodated in a safe location in Lafia, stressing that the security situation in some parts of the state was precarious.

“They are no longer there. We have moved them out of crisis areas. They are about 258 corps members that have been moved back to Lafia,” she said.

NAN reports that the corps members were evacuated from Agyaragu-Tofa and Assakio communities in Lafia East Development Area and Daddere and Tudun-Adabu in Obi Local Government Area.

The communities had recently been recording frequent clashes between herdsmen and farmers.

Olabamiji said that the relocated corps members had been instructed to report regularly to the NYSC secretariat in Lafia, explaining that the measure was for the secretariat to be abreast with their welfare and safety.

She urged all corps members in the state to remain calm and go about their lawful duties, assuring that NYSC would not compromise their safety and well-being “for any reason.”
