Voters in Niger East Senatorial zone came out in large numbers in spite of the rainfall on Saturday to vote in a bye-election.
NAN reports that the rain started just as accreditation commenced at about 9:00 a.m. Mr Okonkwo Onyeka, the Presiding Officer at Sabon Tasha in Kuta, told NAN that the accreditation had closed and that voting would commence by noon.
Alhaji Uba Kuta, Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Mobilisation, said “all is going on well.
“The voters and INEC officials have been conducting their duties well,” he added.
At the Diko polling unit in Gurara Local Government, the PDP candidate for the election, Dr Shem Zagbayi, told NAN that he did not envisage any problem during and after the election.
Alhaji Garba Mohammad, Commissioner for Youths, also told NAN that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure security of lives and property.
“As you know, there is restriction on movement for the duration of the election and security agencies are monitoring developments,” he said.
