LASPOTECH Runs Against Cancer

Students of the Lagos State Polytechnic, LASPOTECH on 20 August, 2014, had its fourth marathon tagged ‘Race Against Cancer 2014’ at the institution’s Ikorodu Campus through major roads in the area.

Qudus Osuolale, HND 2 Business Administration won in the men’s category while Rotinmi Oluwatosin Tonia, HND 1 student of Office Technology and Management, breasted the tape first in the women’s category.

On why the school picked the theme, President of Students Union, Comrade AbdulKareem Yusuf, tols P.M.NEWS Campus Square that the issue of cancer was being treated because so many people are still ignorant of the disease and how to act against it.

He said: “Organising the marathon every year promotes  unity among us. That’s why we have to continue organizing it.

“Whether students like it or not, they would have representatives from their departments so they have to come around to cheer them up,” he said.

Yusuf noted that the union had to limit the distance to be covered within the school because of the doctors’ strike.

It was initially planned that the  race would start from the school’s Podium Ground through the 3rd Gate, Itokin Road and return through Ilepo Oba then end at the polytechnic’s main gate.

The President of LEO club of Laspotech, Leo Ademuyiwa Ademola Taofeek, said the group volunteered to partner  with the SUG  because it sees LASPOTECH as its community.

Taofeek was glad that there was  no casualty during the cause of the event.

Other winners for the male category were AdedejiAzeez, and Amao Sulaimon, who  came 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In the women’s category, Musa Abosede Titilayo came 2nd  while Agness Kelechi came 3rd.
