Newly appointed Director, FCT Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), Danjuma Garba, on Tuesday said that the directorate would partner stakeholders to sensitise motorists on proper road usage.

Garba said this in Abuja while briefing newsmen on the need to sensitise motorists on the need for good road usage.

He said the directorate would engage all stakeholders including vehicle industries and traffic managers in the country on the project to achieve optimal result.

According to him, the scheme would put things in perspective, set agenda and stress the importance of the media and their role towards restoring sanity among road users.

The director pledged to tackle the menace of okada operators within the FCT, Abuja.

He said that the directorate would adopt “aggressive enforcement” to ensure that the all commercial motorcyclists complied with traffic regulations.

“Also, all illegal car marts at places the authorities have designated as illegal will be dislodged. We will ensure the removal of unpainted taxis that constitute nuisance in the city; those that want to operate, we will get clear cut directives and regulations that will handle them,” he said.

Garba further promised to flush out all illegal mechanic workshops operating in the city. He also said that KeKe NAPEP operators would be confined to the areas they were meant to operate.

“We will ensure they comply with these directives through the different instrumentalities that have been set up.
We will employ the services of task forces, our task force in the directorate, the task force of the Nigerian Police and special operations that we are going to embark on,” he said.

He emphasised the need for the public to be seriously enlightened on these impending changes.

Garba said that the directorate would embark on public enlightenment to make citizens understand what the government expected of them.

He also warned feeder route operatives and those that park wrongly to desist forthwith or risked their vehicles clamped or removed off the road.

Garba also promised to remove all obstructions along the roads within the city and ensure that vehicles were road worthy.

Besides, he said that only competent motorists and those who have valid driver’s license would be allowed to ply the roads in FCT.

“For us to keep our roads safe, we must have good drivers and licensed ones not emergency drivers,” he said.

Garba promised that his administration would invest in proper staff training to make the personnel be at their best, adding that he promote career growth and staff development.

“We will work on the attitude of our staff so that they will have proper comportment, etiquette and their carriage will be professional,” he said.

He said that when a safe motoring environment would be in the interest of the federal capital and the country at large.
