Attack on Gwoza: Seven policemen rescued

Nigeria Police Force said on Monday that it has rescued seven of its 35 men declared missing after an attack on its training school in Gwoza, Borno State by Boko Haram insurgents.

“Attack On Police Mobile Force Training School (#Gwoza Camp) Borno State. Seven course men rescued and brought to safety. Search for remaining twenty-eight are being intensified,” Police announced on its Twiiter acoount on Monday.

The Police had announced last Saturday that it is searching for 35 of its men after the Boko Haram attack on the Gwoza Training camp of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force in Borno State last Thursday.

It was learnt that the militants also looted the College treasury, going away with about 200 AK47s.

Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, who announced the missing the policemen in a statement had indicated that there was still hope of finding them.

“The search and rescue party launched immediately has located and brought to safety all Police officers in the Training College at the time of attack.

“So far, thirty-five policemen who are still missing from the facility as a result of the latest attack are being searched for with very promising prospect of locating them.”

Ojukwu said following this development, the acting Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has ordered a security beef-up in all police formations and facilities.

The militant sect first launched an unsuccessful attack on the training school on 7 August.

The insurgents however returned on 20 August 2014 and successfully overran the College.
