Chief Tom Ikimi, one of the leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC made good his threat to dump the mega opposition party on Tuesday.
The former chairman of the defunct National Republic Convention said in a letter to the leadership of APC on Tuesday that he is withdrawing his membership of the party.
“I have made the decision to withdraw my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC) from today, 27th August 2014,″ Ikimi said in the letter.
It is not clear if, like others before him, the Edo State high chief will be joining the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The former minister of foreign affairs did not indicate his next political move in the letter.
But if he decided to join the PDP as is being speculated, Ikimi will be returning home.
He was not just a former member of Nigeria ruling party, he was also Chairman PDP National Convention Presidential Election Panel in January 2003.
Ikimi fell out with leadership of APC following his failure to actualise his ambition of the opposition party at its June 2014 national convention.
He had alleged that he was schemed out of the race for the chairman of the party, though he was not even present at the Eagle Square convention ground where Chief John Oyegun was elected to fill the position.
The leadership of APC had consequently raised a team headed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to appease him and other chieftain of the party who were aggrieved about the outcome of the congresses as well as the earlier states and local congresses.
The dumping of APC on Tuesday indicates the failure of the appeasement efforts.
