Ore-Ofe Williams, gospel movie star and motivational speaker also teaches creative writing, dramatic literature, film studies and comparative literature at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. He told KAYODE APONMODE his story
How did you come into the movie industry?
I remember the day I asked Uncle Yemi Shodimu ‘how do I join this industry’? He simply said you join by joining. Actually, I didn’t come into it, I grew in it. I have been a theatre person since I was 12. That was when I began writing plays. While in Ijebu Ode Grammar School, I founded the JOGS Drama Club. The interest became more intense in the university where I staged plays and invited professionals to watch us. Later I started featuring in films.
Why did you choose the Yoruba gospel sector of Nollywood?
Yoruba? No, I never chose Yoruba above others. We also shoot movies in English Language too.
How many movies have you produced from your stable?
I have over 20 films.
Which of them gave you the breakthrough to stardom?
None yet. I am not yet a star. With God and wonderful journalists like you, many more will know about Awo Jesu, Were Pataki, The Gospel of Judas, etc.
Which one would you describe as the most successful commercially?
Not yet. When you see a commercial success in me you won’t have to ask. We market the films on the streets. God is able.
Have you experienced any moment you wanted to quit?
No. Never. I am an addicted artiste. I pray for more grace in Jesus Name. Amen.
