The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) will on 27 August begin a three-day All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC) in Katsina with the theme: “Credible Elections and Good Governance: The Role of the Editor”.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Chooks Oko, Chairman, Media and Publicity Sub-committee of the Guild, and issued to the NAN on Thursday in Abuja.

It said that veteran journalist and former governor of Ogun state, Aremo Segun Osoba, would be the chairman of the occasion, while Senate President David Mark, will be the special guest of honour.

It said that former chairman of First Bank Plc, Alhaji Umaru Muttallab, would deliver the keynote address, while the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, will speak on the topic: “Free and fair polls: Challenges and Acceptability”.

It also said that the Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, information minister Labaran Maku, and Mr Steve Oroh, Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, are the special guests.

The statement said that a former NPAN president, Mr Ray Ekpu, would speak on the topic: “Media and Society: Imperatives for Fair Reporting”.

It also said that a lawyer and human rights activist, Mr Ayo Obe, would speak on the topic: “Good Governance as Panacea for Sustainable Democracy”.

It said that the executive session would be attended by invited state governors, while the editors’ clinic would address key challenges of the profession, including health, and new media.

The statement quoted the NGE President, Mr Femi Adesina, as saying that the conference will also feature induction of new members, and conferment of fellowship on some distinguished members.
