Auto crash claims 10 lives in Enugu

The police in Enugu on Tuesday confirmed that 10 people died in an auto crash on the Opi-Eha-Alumona-Obollo-Afor road on Monday.

A statement from the spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, said the identity of the victims was yet to be established.

Amaraizu said the accident involved a mass transit vehicle with registration number AKL 323 XA from the Enugu end and another bus with registration number NNE 605 XA from the Markudi end.

He said the two vehicles collided and caught fire immediately and claimed the 10 lives.

In another development, the spokesman said that two persons lost their lives in a fight at a burial ceremony in Eha-Alumona, Nsukka Local Government Area on Saturday.

The statement said the two persons whose ages were given as 25 years died after falling into an underground water tank in the course of their fight.

The statement said the corpses had been deposited in a nearby mortuary.
