The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday donated relief materials to flood victims in Jigawa state.

Alhaji Musa Ilalla, the North-West Zonal Coordinator of the NEMA, stated this in Dutse while handling over the materials to the state government’s representative.

Based on the agency’s assessment in the affected areas, he said that more than 500 victims were expected to benefit from the relief materials.

Ilalla listed the affected local government areas to include Hadejia, Taura and Ringim.

NAN reports that the items were received on behalf of the state government by Alhaji Aliyu Waziri, the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

The items distributed included 200 bags of maize, 200 bags of guinea corn, 300 bags of rice, 60 jerrycans each of palm and vegetable oil each.

Others are 600 bags of cement, 500 pieces of ceiling board, 300 bundles of roofing sheets, 200 bags of roofing nails, 200 packets of zinc nail, 200 pieces each of Shadda and wrapper.

Responding, SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Alhaji Aliyu Waziri, commended NEMA for the gesture, pledging that the items would be distributed among the victims without any discrimination.

Waziri also urged residents to clear their drains and relocate from flood-prone areas so as to forestall future occurrence of flood disaster in the state.
