An election monitoring group, Reclaim Nigeria, on Saturday commended security agents that supervised the conduct of the Osun governorship election for displaying “high sense of professionalism” during the exercise.
An official of the group, who observed the exercise in parts of Osogbo and its environs, Adewole Adewale, told NAN shortly after conclusion of collation of results in some centres that the police, in particular, displayed “good conduct”.
“I went round most of the polling units on a motorcycle and I saw excellent display of professionalism by the security agencies,” he said.
Adewale also praised INEC officials for “good organisation and performance” in the conduct of the exercise.
“The electorate persevered to exercise their franchise and that is good for our democracy; the people have displayed political maturity and it is left for whoever wins to ensure good governance,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction at the general process of the exercise, saying that election observers in various centres also contributed to its success.
NAN reports that collation began in many centres from 5:00 p.m. amidst tight security in the presence of voters who waited anxiously after casting their votes to get further details.
