The Lagos State Chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the reversal of the Lagos State University, LASU, school fees as a welcome development, but said that the gesture was deceitful and politically induced.

The party stated this in a statement made available to P.M News by its Publicity Secretary, Taofeek Gani.

It wondered why the state Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola earlier ignored public outcry and thereby caused irredeemable losses in the system.

“The eight month old doctors strike that led to over 3000 deaths should be fresh on our minds,” Gani stated.LASU gate

The party explained that it came to such conclusion because the state governor did not consult the Governing Council of the institution and even the state House of Assembly had no knowledge of the spontaneous announcement.

According to him,”in the opinion of our party, Governor Fashola was jolted by the open aspersions and protests organised by all the unions on campus during the convocation ceremony , so he needed to save his face to escape more terrible disgrace, thus the announcement of unplanned reversal of the fees ”

The PDP has however alerted Lagosians to expect more Greek gifts from the APC as the 2015 Lagos Governorship election gets closer.

“We congratulate the dogged Unions of LASU on the reversal of the school fees. The reversal however has ulterior motives. The 2015 elections are near, it is one of the motives. Governor Fashola should apologise for causing the delay in graduation of some of the students.

“He must also send the fees reversal policy to the Governing Council of LASU for immediate legal approval. All these must be done before this government can be taken seriously,” he stated.
