The Commissioner of Police in Rivers, Tunde Ogunsakin, said on Friday that the Anti-Cult Unit of the command had deployed policemen to Ahoada Division Area Command to check cult clashes.

Ogunsakin told NAN in Port Harcourt that the deployment followed reported cult clashes in some communities in neighbouring Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas.

He said nine people were killed by the rival cult gangs on 31 July.

NAN reports that residents of Obagi, Obieze, Obimiri, Ede, Obite and Akabuka, in the affected local government areas, had complained of cult clashes and sporadic shooting in their communities.
