Police To Promote 6 AIGs To Work With New IG

Following the appointment of Suleiman Abba as Nigeria’s new acting Inspector-General of Police, there are indications that the Police Service Commission, PSC, headed by former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, will promote six Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs).

Sources told P.M.NEWS Friday that the DIGs to be promoted would form the management team that would work with the new acting Inspector General of Police.

Abba, who until his appointment was the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7, comprising Abuja, Kaduna and Niger states, replaced Mohammed Abubakar who proceeded on statutory retirement on Thursday having completed 35 years in service.

The AIGs likely to be promoted are AIG Force Intelligence Bureau, FIB, Solomon Arase, from Edo State;  AIG Dan’Azumi Job Doma, the Force Secretary from Niger State, AIG Bala Hassan from Kano State, AIG Christopher Dega, AIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu and AIG Mamman Tsafe.

The new Acting Inspector-General, a lawyer, hails from Jigawa State and is an alumnus of the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies.

Positions previously held by him in the Police include Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, FCT Command, Deputy Force Secretary and Commissioner of Police, Rivers State.

His appointment is with effect from Friday, 1 August, 2014
