The much-anticipated African Muzic Magazine Awards, AFRIMMA, which held at the weekend, has again confirmed hip-hop act, Davido, as an artiste to be reckoned with in 2014.

The star singer once again clinched the diadem for Artiste of the Year and Best Male West Africa, making it the third of such award this year.

Davido picked the latest ahead of three other Nigerian artistes: Wizkid, Iyanya and Flavour; two Ghanaian acts, Sarkodie and Shatta Wale and Ivorian singer, DJ Arafat.

During the award show held at the Eisemann Center, Richardson, Texas, Mavin Records leading lady, Tiwa Savage, also beat Nigeria’s Chidimma, Senegal’s Viviane Chidid, Ivory Coast’s Teeyah, Benin Republic’s Sessima and Ghana’s Efya, as Africa’s Female Best.

Pop music giant, 2Face Idibia was honoured with AFRIMMA’s Leadership in Music Award 2014 and Chief Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom State governor was bestowed with Transformational Leadership Award 2014.

Expectedly, the show featured spectacular performances by top artistes from Africa, including a duet from hip hop act, Tuface Idibia and Grammy Award-winning rapper, Faheem Najm, alias T-pain. The show was anchored by comedian Basketmouth and Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim.

AFRIMMA’s founder Anderson Obiagwu who was excited about the success of the show, noted that his company was determined to sustain the drive towards a world-class African awards show through what he described as its “crossing boundaries with music”.
