The Federal Government on Thursday called on the citizenry to support its effort in the fight against terrorism and other forms of criminalities in the country.

Anyim Pius Anyim, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), made the appeal in a remark at the closing of a two-day workshop on Security Consciousness and Awareness in Abuja.

“The insurgency in our country must be defeated and Nigeria`s position as the leader of Africa must be demonstrated once again.

“This is only possible if all of us, the security operatives and all Nigerians work together in harmony and with a common purpose,’’ he said.

Anyim stressed that the support of the citizen and all stakeholders were required to address communal clashes, pastoralist farms` conflicts, armed robbery, kidnapping and pipeline vandalism.

“As the insurgency ravages, government and security agencies have responded with the vigour required to defeat the agents of destruction.

“In order to sustain and uphold Nigeria`s pride of place in the country, we must rise and fight the agents of violence and destruction in our midst,” he said.
