Maigari’s impeachment: NFA member says signature was forged

A member of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) board, Ahmad Kawu, on Thursday in Abuja distanced himself from the impeachment of Aminu Maigari as NFA Chairman.

Kawu told newsmen shortly after Maigari was impeached as NFA Chairman at the Glass House that he was not part of the whole impeachment process, saying “my signature was forged”.

NAN reports that the NFA board had on Thursday morning passed a vote of no confidence on Maigari and impeached him.

The board, in a communiqué signed by Muazu Suleyman, said Maigari’s impeachment was on the grounds of financial misappropriation, misapplication and maladministration.

The association’s First Vice-Chairman, Mike Umeh, was however mandated to preside over the affairs of the NFA pending the composition of a new board after the 26 August elections.

“I was not part of the whole process. I was just in attendance at the meeting. In fact, I did not append my signature on the impeachment endorsement.

“So, I do not understand what happened,” Kawu said.

But, in a swift reaction, Umeh said he was not aware of the claim of signature forgery by any board member.

“I am not aware of that claim. Nobody has said anything of such,” he said.

NAN reports that Kawu as an NFA board member and is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Nation-Wide League (NNWL).
