2 Men Electrocuted

Two middle-aged men have been electrocuted in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, northcentral Nigeria.

The incident, which occurred in Oyun area of Ilorin, was reported to have resulted in another man sustaining injuries.

The dead victims, simply identified as Gani and Musa, were reported to be working on a high tension wire when electricity supply was suddenly restored by Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN.

Our correspondent gathered that Gani, who hailed from Aberi compound, Isale Aluko area of Ilorin, held the ladder on which Musa climbed to carry out repairs on the electrical fault.

While Gani was reported to have died on the spot, Musa died at a private hospital in Ilorin where he was rushed to for medical attention.

The two men have been buried according to Islamic rites at the Muslim Cemetery, Ilorin.

When contacted on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Kwara State Command, Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi, said he was not aware of the tragedy.

But one of the late Gani’s friends, who confirmed the incident but pleaded not to be named, described the tragedy as pathetic, saying that the deceased took home his new wife on the fateful day before leaving for the job which claimed his life.

“Surprisingly, it was that fateful day that he introduced his wife to his parents. I can’t just believe this is happening because when I received the news, I was shocked at that moment,” he lamented.
