Bojan first caught the eye of Hughes five years ago when he was manager at Manchester City. Bojan decided to move to the Potteries after accepting that Luis Suarez’s arrival at the Nou Camp would leave his first-team opportunities limited.

Bojan, 23, was tipped for great things when he broke Lionel Messi’s record to become Barcelona’s youngest player in La Liga at the age of 17 years, 19 days.

He made his international debut for Spain the following year but was unable to go on and become a regular at Barcelona.

The forward moved to Roma in 2011 and after rejoining Barca, spent last season on loan with Dutch club Ajax where he scored five goals in their title-winning campaign.
