The Coalition of Political Support Groups in Cross River says it is has begun mass mobilisation for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.

The Director-General of the coalition, Edet Asia, said this on Sunday in Calabar in an interview with the NAN. He was speaking on the background of successful inauguration of the executives of the coalition in the 18 local government areas and 196 wards of the state.

He said the coalition had taken analysis of the president’s stewardship in office and was convinced that he deserved a second term.

“The Coalition of Political Support Groups in Cross River declares its total support for President Goodluck Jonathan to declare for a second term.

“We are ready to work in all nooks and crannies of the state for his re-election; we will do this on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” he said.

According to him, the coalition will also support any governorship candidate that emerges on the platform of PDP in the state in 2015.

He said the coalition would join forces with relevant stakeholders to ensure that a suitable successor would emerge to sustain the initiatives of Governor Liyel Imoke.

He said the coalition comprised dedicated men and women, especially the youth, carefully selected from across the local government areas in the state.

Asia also solicited for financial support for the coalition from the state government and philanthropic members of PDP to enable it to carry out its mandate.

He stressed the need for members of the coalition to be included as delegates to the party’s national convention. “We want to be part of the delegates so that we can join hands with Gov. Imoke to ensure the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan,” he said.

He noted that the coalition had undertaken some empowerment initiatives to assist its members to acquire vocational skills to keep them away from thuggery.

“We believe that when our youths are self-reliant, they cannot be lured into engaging in thuggery and other social vices,” he said.
