Still basking in the euphoria of his victory at the Ekiti State 21 June governorship election, the governor-elect, Ayo Fayose, has said that he has penchant for defeating incumbent governors, urging the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to replicate same in Lagos in 2015.

Fayose who stated this at a rally organised in his honour by the Lagos PDP on Friday, boasted that his party will defeat APC in the Southwestern states in 2015.

The rally which was held at the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, Lagos, was attended by several party chieftains including Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro; Chairman, Lagos State chapter of the PDP, Group Captain Olatunji Shelle (retd); Prince Buruji Kashamu; PDP interim zonal chairman, Chief Ishola Filani; PDP Lagos gubernatorial candidates, party members among others.

“I have penchant for defeating incumbent governors. I defeated Adebayo in 2003 and Fayemi in 2014. When we defeat them in the last election, they said we rigged.

“Did the PDP rig in Ekiti state when I defeated Adebayo, the then incumbent governor? Fayemi said Adeniyi is his godfather and I told him I defeated his godfather and I would defeat him who is the godson,” he said.

He said he was prepared to join hands with party leadership and mobilise support to ensure that the PDP formed the next government in Lagos.

While calling on the party leadership to shun imposition of candidate for coming election, he counseled governorship aspirants that were only interested in becoming commissioners to quit the race now and leave the race for more serious ones who were ready to garner more strong support for the PDP.

He also enjoined the aspirants to be prepared to support whoever among finally emerges the standard bearer of the party in the state, in order for PDP to win the 2015 governorship election.

Speaking further, he declared that President Goodluck Jonathan would win the 2015 presidential election and rule the country for another four years no matter the antics of the opposition.

“It was not his making that he (Jonathan) became president and it will not be his making again but God, when he’s re-elected president again in 2015.

“Nothing will stop Jonathan from being re-elected as president come 2015. He was elected as president in 2011 not by his own making, it was destined. We have God, we have the people, we have the strategy, we did it before and we would do it again no matter what anybody does to frustrate his chances,” he said.

Minister of State for Defence, Senator Obanikoro, in his address, also declared that the PDP was poised to win back South-West from APC, just as he insisted that he never brought the Military to Ondo or Ekiti to harass or intimidate voters, but to ensure one man, one vote.

“The PDP won the bye-election in Ondo. The following day, they said I brought the military. I didn’t. We ensured one man, one vote.

“In Ekiti also, we ensured that every means of rigging was blocked. PDP won election in all the 16 local governments in the state. You know that APC is not a sensitive government. They increased school fees on the eve of election.

“We won in Ekiti hands down; the next place is Osun. It is the cradle of Yoruba. Let us serve a notice now, Aregbesola should start packing his bags and baggages.

“There is nowhere in Southwest where their is no religious tolerance. Aregbesola does not stand for progress, Aregbesola stands for extremism,” he said.

The minister maintained that a wind of change was currently blowing across Southwest in favour of the PDP by God’s will, declaring that Lagos could not be an exception to witness such change of government.

“We were in Osun and we were well received. A wind of change is currently blowing across South-West, Lagos can’t be an exception. Whoever God is with is in majority. It is God’s word that is coming to pass. This is our time whether they like it or not,” he said.

“We have something they didn’t have, we are the party of Yoruba, we are the party of Ibo, we are the party of South-South and we are the party of North,” Obanikoro added.
