A Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), on Thursday advised the military to ensure orderliness during the forthcoming governorship election in Osun on 9 August.

The Executive Director of the Coalition, Bassey Ekamon gave the advice at a news conference on preparation for Osun governorship election in Abuja.

Ekamon said that role of military in promoting peace and harmony in the country “at this trying time” could not be overemphasised.

He reminded the military of its primary responsibility of protecting the territorial integrity of the country against external aggression.

“We call on the military to stay clear of elections as its primary responsibility is protecting the territorial integrity of our nation.”

He noted that it was imperative for the commission to provide a level playing ground to all political parties and contestants with a view to ensure credible and transparent election.

He advised the people of Osun to remain resolute in the course of exercising their fundamental human rights and urged politicians to play according to the rules of the game.
