Reports emanating from the King Jaja Hall of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Akoka, Lagos, suggest that an undergraduate student, Abayomi Sapara, who sustained a shoulder injury after he was allegedly shot by unidentified gunmen, may have been the target of suspected cult members.

P.M.NEWS Campus Square findings revealed that the assailants were about five in number when they stormed the hall of residence at about 9 p.m. on Monday night and the disturbance did not end until midnight.

“We heard someone sound like he was being beaten and all of a sudden, we heard a very loud bang like a gun shot,” recalled one of the leaders of King Jaja Hall who pleaded anonymity for security reasons.

“When we got there, we discovered that one of the residents of the hall had been shot and he was immediately rushed to the hospital.

“Calm was restored to the hall but I strongly believe that Sapara was shot by cult members because they seem to be the only ones who have the audacity to carry out such an attack,” he added.

Another student of the institution who spoke with our correspondent noted that the attack may not have been unconnected with cult activities.

While pleading anonymity, the 200-level Business Administration student stated that the general feeling on campus was that the young man was a target of cultists.

The informant added: “nobody can say precisely what happened but we all know that our school is always peaceful even during protests. Sapara may have been shot by cultists, but nobody is sure about why they came for him. It must have been a revenge mission.”
