4 'Yahoo boys' remanded for murder

Justice Olanrewaju Mabekoje of the Ogun State High Court, Isabo, Abeokuta today ordered four suspected Internet fraudsters popularly called ‘Yahoo boys’ to be remanded in prison for allegedly killing a couple, Muritala Salami and his wife, Sabiat in Owode-Egba in Obafemi-Owode local government area of the State.

The suspects, Kazeem Oseni, 28, Saheed Akinyele, 35, Idowu Oguntade, 37,and Dotun Sobukola, 33 were arraigned on a 14-count charge bordering on conspiracy, attempted killing, unlawful killing and belonging to an unlawful society.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Rotimi Adeniji told the court, in western Nigeria, that the accused persons committed the offence on August 7, 2013 between 7-8pm in Owode-Egba area of Ogun State.

According to the prosecutor,” the accused conspired with others, now at large to commit the crime, killing the two persons. The accused and other members of the group now at large belonged to an unlawful society known as “Federal Mopol”.

“The offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 390(678)29 Law of Nigeria, 2006”, he said.

Efforts by the counsel to the accused persons, Ade Ogungbade and Bukola Anthony, to get the suspects bailed were turned down as the Judge ordered that they should be remanded.

The Judge said that the accussed should be kept in the prison custody, pending legal advice from the office of the State Director of Public Prosecution.

The matter has been adjourned till 6 October 2014.
