Hairdresser arraigned for murder

A Federal Capital Territory High Court on Tuesday granted permission to the police to arraign a 29-year old hair dresser, Abigail Emmanuel, for murder.

Justice Abubakar Umar gave police the go ahead after the prosecuting counsel, Peter Egele, made an oral application seeking for the permission.

Umar also directed that the accused should be remanded in police custody pending arraignment.

Egele said the application was brought pursuant to the Criminal Procedure Code and rule of the Criminal Procedure Act.

“My lord, in support of the application, we filed an eight paragraph affidavit which was deposed to by Cpl. Umar Mohammed of the state C.I.D, FCT Police Command.

“My lord, we also attached a one-count charge of culpable homicide, prove of evidence, list of exhibits, list of witnesses and their addresses as well as the statement of the accused,” he said.

He urged the court to hold that the application was properly served and also prayed the court to grant the application.

In his ruling, Umar said after a careful consideration of the application, he was satisfied that it had strong merit.

He adjourned the case until 27 June for arraignment
