President Goodluck Jonathan will depart Abuja on Saturday evening for Dakar, the Senegalese capital, to attend the African Union (AU) Summit on Financing Infrastructure Development billed for June 14 and 15.
A statement issued by Dr Reuben Abati, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, stated that Jonathan would lead Nigeria’s delegation to the summit.
“The president will join other participating Heads of State and Government, representatives of the United Nations, the African Union, global financial institutions and leading investors in deliberations at the summit.
“The summit is aimed at accelerating the implementation of key priority infrastructure projects within the framework of the African Union Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa.
“The president and other participants at the summit, convened under the auspices of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), will also brainstorm on the mobilisation of domestic financial resources for infrastructure development.
Abati said the summit is expected to pay particular attention to the evolution of fresh strategies for the financing of high priority infrastructure projects such as regional road and rail networks, power supply and ports development.
The statement said the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and her counterpart in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga are on the president’s entourage.
Also on the entourage are the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Nurudeen Mohammed and the Special Adviser to the President on NEPAD, Mrs Fidelia Njeze.
