The Minister of Sports, Dr Tamuno Danagogo, has called on Nigerians and government agencies to embrace regular physical exercise.

He government agencies should emulate the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) by engaging their workers in regular physical exercise.

The minister, who was the special guest at the FRSC’s monthly jogging on Saturday in Abuja, said physical fitness of staff would enhance their productivity.

“If we have more agencies like the FRSC involved in physical fitness, then there will be improvement in productivity in all the sectors of the economy,” he said.

Danagogo, who was represented by Alhaji Yakmut Alhassan, the Director of Grassroots Sports Development, expressed regret that people do not show interest in physical fitness activities.

“Among all the level of fitness, mental, spiritual and moral fitness, the most neglected is physical fitness.

“We are therefore using this opportunity to say that all citizens should improve the quality of their lives and also extend their lives span by engaging in physical activities.

“That is the only activity money cannot buy,” he said.

The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Mr Osita Chidoka, represented Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, a Deputy Corps Marshal, underscored the need for people to embark on physical exercise to improve their living.

Chidoka said that regular body exercise could help in checking high blood pressure, diabetes and other non-communicable diseases.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the theme of this month’s jogging exercise is: “Jogging for Sports Development and Peace.”
