Kaduna Disco, Niger Republic to collaborate on power supply

The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC) and the Societe Nigerienne D’electricite (NIGEREC) of Niger Republic, on Thursday agreed to adopt a framework to boost revenue generation and power supply.

The Managing Director of KEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, said at the discussion in Kaduna that the company was interested in the way the NIGEREC collects 100 per cent of its revenue from electricity consumers.

He said that such agreement would strengthen existing relationship between the two companies.

Idris said the KEDC would benefit greatly from the collaboration especially in boosting its revenue generation capacity.

He said the billing profile of the company as at December 2013, showed that KEDC had 321,356 electricity consumers with 199, 479 metres in circulation.

According to him, only 121,877 electricity consumers are however directly connected to power facilities of the company.

Mr Alhassane Halid, the Managing Director of NIGEREC, welcomed the idea of drafting a framework to enhance ties between the two companies.

He said his company would support Kaduna Disco to realise 100 per cent revenue collection from its electricity consumers.

He called for high-level dialogue to enhance Niger-Nigeria electricity trade and investment ties and other multilateral and bilateral trade and investment issues.
