Armed robbers last night unleashed terror on the residents of Ibereko, a suburb of Badagry, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, killing a popular pharmacist and shooting a soldier.

The pharmacist, Mr. Chukwudi Onuoha, the owner of Hossana Pharmaceutical Stores, was shot dead after the assailants had succeeded in carting away the day’s sales proceeds.

According to an eye witness, they had earlier robbed a filling station and a night club near the Nigeria French Village, the newly opened Embassy Hotels all in Ibereko before attacking the deceased’s shop.

The incident took place at about 9 p.m., according an eye witness, who also said that when the robbers got to the late Onuoha’s shop, they only collected N7,000 from the sales boys, an amount that seems too meagre to them, considering the size of the shop.

“They started beating the boys and threatened to shoot them if they failed to bring more money. It was the threat that made the deceased to attempt running away and in the process they shot him and he died on the way to the hospital,” said the eyewitness.

The corpse has been deposited at the Badagry General Hospital mortuary and the wounded soldier is said to be receiving treatment.

The late Onuoha  hailed from Orlu in Imo State and is survived by six children and two wives.
