No fewer than 21,647 students will be conferred with degrees and prizes of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Oye State, on April 24 and April 25.

The Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Adeniyi Gbadegesin, made this known when he briefed newsmen on activities to mark LAUTECH 11th convocation in Ogbomoso on Thursday.

Gbadegesin said that 12,271 would be conferred with first degrees, while 9,376 were Post-graduate students, adding that they consist of 2009/2010, 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 session.

He said there would be a Jumat Service on Friday, April 18, at the school mosque and Church service at the school chapel on Sunday, April 20.

The other activities, include a photo exhibition at the Senate building on Tuesday, April 22 and a convocation lecture on Wednesday, April 23.

The vice chancellor said the convocation would be held on Thursday and Friday, April 24 and 25 at the institution’s convocation ground.

He said that his administration had fulfilled its academic obligations, adding that the institution’s programmes had enjoyed acceptance by stakeholders.

Gbadegesin said that all the programmes of the university had been accredited, and were aimed at realising the institution’s vision.

“We have pursued with all resources at our disposal the achievement of the vision of our founding fathers.

“This is to ensure that we stay in focus as a centre of academic excellence for the advancement of technology in meeting socio-cultural needs of the society,’’ he said.

He described the institution’s curriculum as unique, adding that students irrespective of their courses must in the first year take the same courses.

Gbadegesin listed the courses as Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Use of English and General Studies.

The vice chancellor said that two students from our Urban and Regional Planning were among the six selected Google Students Ambassadors and Google Star Ambassador in 2013.

“They joined other Google Alumni Panel in Kenya to select new ambassadors for 2014.

“Also, six of our students won the Etisalat merit award in 2012 and some members of staff had received accolades and recognition for outstanding performances at local and international conferences.’’
