Malam Lawali Zaiyana, Speaker, Sokoto State House of Assembly has urged the Federal Government to adopt advanced security approach in the fight against terrorism.
Zaiyana told the News Agency of Nigeria in Sokoto that counter terrorism strategies should be adopted in confronting the current insecurity situation.
He explained that there are modern ways of fighting terrorism which should be adopted in the country. He said sophisticated weapons should be provided for all the security agencies engaged in the fight.
He also called for effective information sharing among the security agencies in confronting the menace of insurgency. “It is only by so doing that the battle against terrorism can guarantee peace, progress and political development of the country.”
He urged Nigerians to offer useful intelligence reports to the security agencies, to enable them to effectively confront terrorism in the country.
“Our collective efforts will enable the security agencies to apprehend those responsible for causing crisis in the country. If we want the best to come from them (security agents), we must prepare to assist them in the discharge of their constitutional obligations,” he said.
The speaker canvassed improved working conditions for all security officers, to bring out the best in them. “If the nation expects the best from the security officers, decent barrack accommodation, welfare and improved working condition should be the Federal Government’s main priority.”
