Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of Nigeria’s president has called for the release of the 100 school girls abducted by insurgents in Chibok, Borno.

In a statement signed by Ayo Adewuyi, Media Assistant to the First Lady in Abuja, Jonathan appealed to the perpetrators to release the innocent girls and embrace dialogue to settle their differences.

She said she was pained as a woman and mother by the reported abduction of the girls. She said the action was “inhuman and needless perpetration of evil against innocent school children.”

“It has again become necessary for us to strengthen the advocacy for resolving differences in our society in a peaceful manner, to avert violence and wars in our country.

“No nation profits from a regime of fear and insecurity because where there is no peace, there cannot be development,” the statement said.

She said that Nigeria had suffered enough severe loss due to violence and destruction. “There is the need to put a stop to all these, in order to put the nation back on track and enable our leaders to focus on development,” she stated.

Jonathan called on Nigerians to intensify their prayers for God to touch the hearts of the evil perpetrators, to enable the nation to overcome acts of terrorism.
