The management of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, has refused to honour the invitation of the Ogun House of Assembly over the feud between OOU and its medical students.
OOU management was invited over the breakdown of an agreement reached with the final year medical students and their parents on additional school fees.
The institution management was invited to appear before the House Committee on Justice, Petition and Education to find a lasting solution to the matter.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Saburi Adesanya, at a stakeholders meeting on 3 March, was quoted as saying that the graduating medical students, who had paid the mandatory six-year school fees, should pay a “one-off” N40, 000 development levy.
The students claimed that the school had breached an agreement by directing them to pay extra tuition fees to cover the extra time they spent in school.
The meeting, scheduled for noon inside the Committee Room of the Assembly, could not hold, due to the absence of the institution’s management.
Meanwhile, the university’s Medical Students Association had petitioned Governor Ibikunle Amosun, through the Office of the Chief of Staff, to intervene urgently in the matter.
Mr Niyi Oduwole, Head of Corporate Affairs Division of the university, however, said that no student was directed to pay extra tuition fees.
