Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Lagos State Deputy Governor, has made a passionate appeal to workers in the health sector to shelve any plans to embark on an industrial strike, reminding them that the interest of their patients should be upper most on their minds.

Adefulire stated that in the course of asking for better working condition and improved welfare, medical practitioners should always respect their oath, which is to save lives.

“There are always issues between employers and employees but we must continually engage ourselves in dialogue with a view to agreeing on some of the grey areas; the sanctity of life especially, those lives in our care must be uppermost in our minds, regardless of our grievances,” she said.

She made the appeal at the flag-off of the second round of the National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs), held at Ibjeu-Lekki Local Government. She also used the opportunity to appeal to mothers to take full advantage of the immunization exercise to immunize their wards and children against preventable diseases.

She noted that records have shown that the most cost effective and intervention strategy to eradicate these diseases is through immunization, adding that the Lagos State Government and its partnering agencies have made arrangements to ensure that all children in the state are immunized.

Semiu Surakat, Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, thanked the state government for identifying the local government for the flag-off of the programme.

He said the national immunization days are important in the calendar of the local government, noting that parents and guardians within the local government have been mobilized to ensure they follow the immunization programmes, prepare their children’s future by ensuring they are immunized against all forms of deformity during the exercise.

He appealed to all stakeholders to ensure that more sensitization is made for the benefit of the public and ensure that the programme achieves its objective.
