Africa’s biggest corporate supporter of football, Globacom, has urged Nigeria’s U-17 female national team, Flamingoes to go for outright victory in their quarter final match against Spain on Thursday in Costa Rica.

The national women’s cadet team opened their account in the competition with a 2-1 win over China before defeating Colombia by the same margin in the second group match, while Mexico was thrashed 3-0 in the last match played in the early hours of Monday.

“We congratulate the Flamingoes on their victory over Mexico and the subsequent qualification for the quarter finals which was expected, considering the preparation they made before going into the competition,” Globacom said in a statement in Lagos.

“We also know that the team players and technical crew are fully aware of what is at stake and would approach the game against Spain with all the seriousness it deserves.

“We are rest assured that the Bala Nkiyu – tutored team will live up to expectation and qualify for the semi finals,” the statement said.

“We believe that the team has the potential to go all the way and lift the trophy like the Golden Eaglets did in the United Arab Emirates in November last year,” the statement further said, while urging Nigerians to support the Flamingoes in their quest to conquer the world.

The Flamingoes topped Group D with nine points, having won all their group matches while Spain the quarter final opponents of Flamingoes emerged runners up in Group C.

Globacom is the major partner of the Nigeria Football Federation and official sponsor of Nigerian national teams.
