A Laboratory Chemist, Idris Tahir who is a witness in the on-going trial of a police officer, Dodo Chilla Bulus, an Assistant Superintendent of Police today, March 24, 2014 told Justice E.S Chukwu of the Federal High Court, Abuja that the result of the analysis of the product allegedly siphoned by the accused and his cohorts confirmed that it was crude oil.
Bulus is currently being prosecuted by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on a 2-count charge bordering on oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
At the resumed hearing of the case today, Tahir who was led in evidence by counsel to EFCC, Elizabeth Ayodele, told the court that he works in Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company, KRPC. He stated that his unit is responsible for monitoring quality and quantity of petroleum products output.
The witness told the court that, a request for analysis of some product suspected to be crude oil was brought to their office through the Pipeline Product Marketing Company, PPMC who received the samples from EFCC.
Upon receipt of the request Tahir said that they commenced analysis of the composition of product.
He said that a series of test were conducted on the samples of the product to determine among others, the specific gravity or density, sulphur test to determine quality, analysis of the salt content to determine the organic content and another key parameter which is ‘pour point’ for solidification of the product.
The result of these analyses, according to Tahir, showed that the exhibit have clear characteristics of crude oil.
Justice Chukwu adjourned the case to April 2, 2014 for continuation of hearing.
