A former military administrator of Ebonyi state who later became a Nigerian Senator, Simeon Oduoye, is dead.

He was aged 69.

Oduoye, who represented Osun Central Senatorial Zone in the Senate on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party from 2003 to 2007, died today in Osogbo.

Mr Bola Ajao, PDP Publicity Secretary in Osun, confirmed Oduoye’s death to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview on Saturday in Osogbo.

He described Oduoye’s death as “a blow to the party” adding that the deceased was a gentleman to the core, who served the country diligently.

“Oduoye was also a very illustrious son of the land. We will miss him greatly,” Ajao added.

One of the deceased’s children, Mr Kayode Oduoye, who confirmed the death of his father on telephone, said he was “indisposed for some time.’’

Oduoye, an indigene of Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area, retired as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), before he joined politics

The late politician was also the Vice-Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs and a PDP governorship aspirant in Osun in 2003.
