President Hifikepunye Pohamba of Namibia has conferred the “Order of Welwitschia”, the highest national honour of that country on President Goodluck Jonathan. The ceremony was done at the Independence Stadium, Windhoek and it was the high point of the 24th Independence anniversary of Namibia.

Pohamba said the honour was conferred on his Nigerian counterpart in recognition of the selfless contributions by the government and the people of Nigeria to Namibia’s national liberation struggle.

According to him, while the selfless contributions were deeply imprinted in the chronicle of Namibian history for the people to remain forever grateful despite the geographic distance, Nigeria played a prominent role together with the Frontline states in supporting the liberation movements in Southern Africa, including SWAPO of Namibia.
