Iron Lady Merkel: does she earn less than a male chancellor?

The gender pay gap in Germany continued last year for the third year running, with women earning 22 percent less than men, official data showed Tuesday.

Women earned an average hourly gross wage of 15.56 euros ($21.65) in 2013, while men earned 19.84 euros per hour, the federal statistics office Destatis said in a statement.

The difference of 22 percent has remained unchanged since 2010.

Furthermore, the pay gap was “markedly higher” for full-time employees than for part-time employees, the statement said.
