Nigeria's Cricket team: defeated by Malaysia

The Nigeria male cricket team on Wednesday lost to the Malaysian team by nine wickets at the ongoing World Cricket League (Division 5) holding in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The competition which started on March 4, ends on March 14.

A statement by the International Cricket Council said that Nigeria had 113 runs, all out in 32.2 overs, while Malaysia had 115 runs for one wicket in 21.1 overs.

According to the statement, Adegbola Adekunle, the Nigerian captain, said the team started poorly.

“In this tournament, we’ve played well but there are improvements that are to be made.

“Each and every member of the side will have to improve and I hope there will be more facilities in Nigeria for our cricketers.

“Our experience in Malaysia has been great and I hope this experience will help us do well in the next two years when the next tournament comes up,” the statement quoted Adekunle as saying.

Nigeria has suffered three losses in the competition– against Jersey, Tanzania and Malaysia and recorded two victories, against Guernsey and Cayman Islands.

Malaysia and Jersey have both qualified for WCL Division 4 in Singapore in June.

Nigeria will be playing against Tanzania for third and fourth position playoff that will determine the team to remain in the WCL Division 5.
