Nigeria’s Super Eagles have further slumped in the latest FIFA ranking of footballing nations.
The Super Eagles that won the Nations Cup last year and also won the bronze medal in the African Nations Championship are now rated eighth best in Africa and forty-seventh in the world.
The new ranking saw Eagles dropping six places.
Libya, the winner of the CHAN 2014 also lost some steps, dropping to 14th in Africa, even after beating Ghana.
Football buffs are certain to question the latest rankings of African teams, especially with modest Cape Verde being ranked third in Africa, five places above Africa Cup of Nations title-holders Nigeria.
Cote d’Ivoire remain at the summit of African football with 841 points which put them in the 23rd position while CHAN runners up Ghana dropped 13 places to be ranked the 37th best team in the world and fourth in Africa.
Algeria moved to the second position on the continent after amassing 819 points which places them in the 26th spot in the world.
Uganda (18) and Sierra Leone (15) were the biggest climbers — rising four and three places respectively — while Mali were the biggest ‘losers’, slipping three spots.
Spain, Germany and Argentina hold the first, second and third spots in the world respectively as 2014 Fifa World Cup hosts Brazil moved to the ninth spot in the world.
